Purdue simmers to top for Watch List ILB
By Brad Bournival
Davonte James (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield) has the offers. He has the interest as well.
Cincinnati and Georgia Tech have offered. Michigan State, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Wisconsin have showed interest as well.
But it’s the offer from Purdue that is making a strong showing for the 6-foot-1, 220-pound junior inside linebacker.
And the interest in the Boilermakers has little to do with playing time and depth charts.
“They were my first offer,” James said. “The coach came to my school. We had a sit down talk and he was telling me about the school. I like the academics. They’re family. They stick together and I like their campus. I feel like I fit there.”
While the ESPN Watch List junior isn’t close to a decision, right now Purdue is the team to beat as the summer camp circuit is around the corner.
James was a headliner for the Wildcats last season with 60 tackles, a sack, forced fumble and interception, adding two forced fumbles and a defensive touchdown.
