Panthers a favorite for OG LaRubbio
By Jared Shanker
Jarrett LaRubbio (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) has visited Pittsburgh three times now, and he has seen something different on each of those visits.
“I went to a camp last summer and went to a game...and [the junior day Saturday] went really good,” LaRubbio said.
The Panthers have offered the 6-foot-5, 260-pound LaRubbio, who also holds five MAC offers. Following his third visit to Pitt, he said he is really high on the program.
“I like it a lot,” he said. “Right now it’s definitely one of my favorite schools I’ve been to.”
Unlike his first two visits, LaRubbio spent extensive time with the Pitt coaching staff, which brought in several of the Panthers’ top 2014 targets over the weekend. LaRubbio said the Panthers coaches were gauging his interest in Pitt and just taking the time to get to know more about him.
“I got to see how they did things at Pitt,” LaRubbio said. “They showed me around the football complex and it was nice. I got an idea of how they run the football team.”
LaRubbio said he expects more BCS offers to come in soon. He believes Arizona State and Michigan State could offer in the coming weeks.
Spartans assistant Harlon Barnett was in recently and convinced LaRubbio to visit East Lansing in the near future.
Arizona State is waiting to see him in person before taking the next step.
“A couple coaches got to check out my film and they really liked it and want to see me in person,” he said, “so I’m going to talk to them in a few weeks after signing day.
