Michigan offers 2014 athlete
By Tom VanHaaren
Michigan has been extending offers out to 2014 prospects little by little as we move closer to the high school off season.
The latest to receive good news is an athlete out of Colorado, who has been hearing from Michigan for quite some time now.
Christian McCaffrey out of Highlands Ranch Valor Christian spoke with Wolverines offensive line coach Darrell Funk on Tuesday and was notified he had a scholarship offer to Michigan.
"They offered me as a slot receiver," he said. "They said that I might play a little in the backfield, but they definitely want me as a receiver."
The Wolverines are the only school recruiting McCaffrey as a receiver, as most are targeting the Watch List prospect at running back. That doesn't seem to bother him, though, as he is just excited that a program like Michigan is even interested.
"I'd love to play running back, but when a school like Michigan offers you to play football, then you just want to get on the field," he said. "A big, winning program, if you can play football for them period then it would be awesome. I've been playing running back my whole life, but I think I could play receiver."
The son of former NFL receiver Ed McCaffrey, the young McCaffrey doesn't have many questions at this point. He's already been on a visit to Alabama, but says he will find out more about each program after he takes visits in the offseason.
"I will visit Stanford, Oregon, Notre Dame, Michigan and Duke and maybe a couple other schools," he said. "No one sticks out yet, and I'd like to take all my visits before I have a front runner. I'll try to decide before my senior year so I can get it out of the way."
