Hoosiers an early favorite for RB Hilliard
By Jared Shanker
Indiana was the first team to offer C.J. Hilliard (Cincinnati/St. Xavier) back during the summer, so the 2014 running back has rewarded the Hoosiers with several visits. The latest came this past weekend.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound junior was at Indiana for its basketball game against Michigan, and the only way he could describe the atmosphere was just by simply calling it “crazy.”
“It was a fun game and I met a lot of fans and alumni. It seemed like one big family,” Hilliard said. “They all support each other.”
While the Hoosiers basketball program is rolling under Tom Crean, the football program has struggled. Much like Crean, however, football coach Kevin Wilson is slowly making strides with the program, and the Hoosiers have the look of a bowl team in 2013.
Hilliard has seen the progress Wilson is making from afar.
“The football program is going in the right direction,” he said.
While the Hoosiers are the only program to offer Hilliard, programs such as Boston College, Maryland, Minnesota and Missouri are all interested. When Hilliard does start breaking down his options, the Hoosiers will be among the favorites.
“It’s definitely one of the top schools,” he said. “A lot of kids from my school go there, so I know a lot of people. It feels like a bigger [version] of my high school, a big family, really fun place.”
