Ohio State offers big juco OT for 2014
By Brad Bournival
Ohio State is being proactive in going after offensive linemen from the class of 2014.
The Buckeyes’ most recent offer is to junior college prospect Chad Mavety (Garden City, N.Y./Nassau Community College).
Mavety becomes the 20th tackle from the 2014 recruiting class and the 22nd lineman overall offered by the school.
“That offer’s a big offer because as a young kid, all you do is dream about going to a big-time school or playing for a national powerhouse,” Mavety said. “It’s real humbling.”
The 6-foot-6, 320-pound Mavety has offers from Kansas, Miami (Fla.), North Carolina State, Ohio State, Syracuse and Virginia Tech.
He also has interest from Alabama, Florida State, Illinois, Rutgers, USC, Washington and West Virginia.
“[The interest] really challenges you to work hard and live up to that hype,” Mavety said. “It’s a big motivation thing for me. It definitely drives me to be the best.”
Last season, Mavety was a third-team All-Northeast Football Conference selection and was part of an offensive line that helped Nassau C.C. rank sixth in the nation in rushing while going 9-2.
Mavety is on track to graduate in December.
