DE Panfil follows grandfather to Purdue

By Jared Shanker

It looked for quite some time Evan Panfil (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) was going to blaze his own collegiate path at Illinois.

The senior defensive end began having a change of heart when his future position coach, Keith Gilmore, left for North Carolina. On Monday, Panfil switched to Purdue.

Panfil is following much of his family in becoming a Boilermaker.

“My uncle, cousin and grandfather all played [at Purdue],” Panfil said. “My mom and aunt also went to school there.”

Panfil’s grandfather, Ken Panfil, graduated from Purdue and went on to play professionally for the Chicago Cardinals and the Los Angeles Rams.

“It feels good to continue the family tradition,” Panfil said.
