Offered RB James takes in Illini junior day
By Jared Shanker
With an Illinois offer in hand, 2014 running back
(Niles, Ill./Notre Dame) spent his Saturday with who he called his potential future teammates.
The 5-foot-9, 195-pound junior visited Champaign for the Illini’s junior day this weekend.
“It was great,” James said. “I had a chance to meet with a lot of the coaches, see the campus and just get a more detailed understanding of the Illini program.”
The Fighting Illini are looking to do a better job recruiting their home state, and they want to make James part of that movement to bring the state’s top players to Champaign.
“They all told me that I was really high on their list,” James said.
James said the highlight of his visit was talking with the coaches and players.
“Talking with Coach Beckman and the running backs coach about their program and seeing some of the guys that I might be playing with in the future,” James said when asked what stood out the most.
It is the only junior day visit James has scheduled so far, but he hopes to see more Big Ten schools soon. He also holds offers from Idaho, Indiana and Toledo.
