One B1G school stands out for 2014 WR
By Chantel Jennings
Many recruits take a bit of time for themselves after their football season to get away from their recruitment for a bit. For 2014 wide receiver Derek Kief (Cincinnati/LaSalle), that time has lasted a bit longer. He has held off on visits this winter as he’s awaiting the birth of his younger sister, who’s due next month.
Kief has seven offers from the likes of Illinois, Northwestern, Indiana and Kentucky and has seen recent interest as coaches have started making school visits.
Northwestern is standing out for Kief. He already took a visit to Evanston, Ill., and was impressed with the Wildcats' full package. Kief holds a 3.7 GPA while taking honors classes and said academics will play a big part in his final decision, which is another reason why NU has stood out.
“It’s mainly how persistent the coaches have been,” Kief said. “The campus was really nice and I might be able to see myself there. … And a degree from there would go a long way.”
Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State and Louisville have all made their way to LaSalle in the last week or so and he’s hoping to take visits to those programs this spring after his sister is born.
Even though he hasn’t been able to take visits, Kief has remained focused on football. His goal is to put on weight during this offseason while also improving his speed and quickness.
