Florida two-star safety heading to Illinois

By Jared Shanker

Illinois coach Tim Beckman expects to sign a full class come signing day, and the Illini added their 25th commitment Sunday.

Two-star safety James Crawford (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) told ESPN.com in a text message he verbally pledged to Illinois while on an official visit this weekend.

"The coaches are real to you and I fit in well with the players," Crawford wrote.

FBS programs Boise State, Houston, UMass and Northwestern also offered a scholarship to the 6-foot-1, 190-pound Crawford. The Broncos are supposed to host Crawford the weekend of Jan. 25, but he said that visit is no longer taking place.

Crawford is the fifth safety in the Illini's class and seventh defensive back overall.
