Purdue's Hazell likes Kent State target

By Jared Shanker

Darrell Hazell was one of the best recruiters among MAC coaches, often able to identify Big Ten-level talent and bring it to the conference. He could look to now bring that talent to Purdue.

Hazell offered offensive tackle Jason Tretter (Richland, Ohio/Revere) while he was the coach at Kent State, and he is interested in Tretter once again.

Tretter talked with recently hired Purdue assistant Jon Heacock, a member of Hazell's staff at Kent State, too.

"He says that him and Coach Hazell are really interested," Tretter said of Heacock.

Jim Bollman will be Purdue's next offensive line coach, and Tretter said Hazell wants to talk to Bollman about him. But Bollman is out of town until Friday, so the two will talk then.

"He said he will let me know what's happening then," Tretter said.

Tretter is expecting visits from coaches from Cincinnati, Duke and Virginia this week. Yale is his leader.
