Watch List LB gets first Big Ten offer
By Brandon P. Oliver
As one of the best players on what will presumably be among the top high school football teams in the country next season, ESPN Watch List LB Dwight Williams (Gardena, Calif./Serra) has received plenty of attention from college coaches in recent weeks. Last week, the 6-foot, 200-pound LB received two new scholarship offers from two tradition-rich programs.
The latest schools to be in touch with Williams both pulled the trigger and offered Williams a scholarhsip.
"Any time schools with tradition like Washington and Nebraska offer you, it's a big deal," Williams said. "Nebraska is a great offer because they have a strong history and it's my first Big 10 offer."
With the latest pair of offers, the ESPN Watch List member is now up to seven scholarship offers. Arizona State, Boise State, Colorado, Oregon State and UCLA had previously offered Williams, who is one of the elite defenders in the West.
"I have been in touch with Cal, Notre Dame, Oregon, USC and some other schools and receiving an offer from any of them would be great," Williams said. "I feel like I can play with the best of the best, so I just need to continue to improve and show all these coaches that I'm worth an offer."
"It's a blessing to have so many schools talking to me this early in the process. We [Serra] are loaded in the Class of 2014, so coaches come by to see Adoree' [Jackson] or Jalen [Greene] and they might like what they see from me and Greg [Webb], Malik [Robertson] or any of the other guys," Williams said.
