Cincinnati, Duke visiting Ohio tackle soon
By Jared Shanker
Tommy Tuberville has not sent out many offers to Ohio prospects in the 2013 class since becoming Cincinnati’s coach a month ago, but one could be coming in the next week.
Offensive tackle Jason Tretter (Richland, Ohio/Revere) spoke with new offensive line coach Darren Hiller recently, and the Bearcats should be coming to visit him soon.
“They looked at the board and looked through it and needed another tackle,” Tretter said. “He saw my name and watched my filmed and loved it and he’ll come visit and see what’s up.”
Tretter could receive a visit from the coaches at his high school on Friday if not sooner.
Cincinnati hosted Tretter for a visit during the spring, but it came under previous coach Butch Jones. Still, Tretter saw several aspects of the university he likes.
“I liked the facilities Cincinnati has, and it’s close to home. I like that,” he said. “I think Tommy Tuberville did a good job at Texas Tech and can do just as well at Cincinnati.”
The first visit of the week for Tretter will come from Duke, however. Blue Devils offensive line coach John Latina will be at Revere High School first thing Monday morning.
Tretter also visited Duke during the spring months.
“I liked it with Coach Latina as the O-Line coach,” Tretter said. “He’s from Akron and his son lives in Akron so we connected on that. And the coach [David Cutcliffe] had ties to the Mannings -- that shows me a lot. And they had a real successful season this year.”
Virginia assistant Bill Lazor should be visiting Tretter this week, too.
As of now, Tretter has five scholarships, including two from FBS programs. His top school is Yale following a December official visit, though.
“I really enjoyed it. Coach [Joe] Conlin came on Friday and I think [Head] Coach [Tony] Reno is coming this week again, I think Wednesday,” Tretter said.
