“I’ll keep it simple and just say ‘crazy’,” he said. “There’s really no other way to describe it.”
Anzalone was an early commit to Ohio State but had a very public split with the program that made national headlines and a lot of angry Buckeyes fans.
“I guess it’s just part of the process,” Anzalone said about the fan backlash. “When you make a decision that’s best for you not everyone’s going to like it, but I’m happy and I did what I had to do.”
In July the ESPN 150 linebacker committed to Notre Dame but admits he had second thoughts after an official visit to Florida.
“Once I saw the game-day atmosphere and the SEC atmosphere I was definitely having second thoughts,” Anzalone adds. “But I’m completely solid to Notre Dame.”
Anzalone is one of three Irish commits in the Under Armour All-America Game, which kicks off at 5 p.m. ET Friday live on ESPN from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. The 6-foot-3, 231-pound senior says he is not going to target any of the six Alabama commits at the game this week, but he’ll proudly carry the flag for Notre Dame.
“Nah, I don’t think I’m going to give anyone the stink eye,” he joked. “It’ll be a real low-scoring game next Monday but you know I’ve got to go with the Irish."
