Under Armour Spotlight: Cam Burrows

By Brad Bournival

Cam Burrows is a man of few words, preferring to let what he does on the field do the talking for him. That said, Burrows, who was Ohio State’s first commit of the 2013 class on Jan. 19, has been all about recruiting others.

He’s headed to Friday’s Under Armour Game with the idea of grabbing more future Buckeyes. Burrows picked up his Under Armour jersey on Oct. 17 along with future Michigan linebacker and high school teammate Mike McCray II. As a senior, Burrows showed what a lockdown corner he was when the 6-foot, 203-pound cornerback made 39 tackles, broke up 14 passes and had a fumble recovery.

With Gareon Conley joining the team on Dec. 7 many talked about moving Burrows over to safety to make room for Conley, a two-way star out of Massillon, Ohio.

Ranked as the sixth-best cornerback in the nation, Burrows isn’t ready to just cede his position to anyone. The fact he’s fallen in the rankings a bit -- he’s ranked 39th overall -- is likely a motivating factor as well.

He’ll come to Ohio State and become part of a loaded secondary. Like future teammate Marcus Baugh, he could find time on special teams next season.

Burrows joins Buckeyes commits Jalin Marshall, Conley, Joey Bosa and Baugh as Under Armour All-Americans who will play in St. Petersburg, Fla.  Here are the ESPN 150 defensive back’s thoughts on the Under Armour Game, which will be played Jan. 4 at 5 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN:

BN: What do you hope to accomplish at the Under Armour Game?

Burrows: I just want to show people that I can be a lockdown corner and not a safety.

BN: Which prospect that you’ve never met do you want to meet and why?

Burrows: [ESPN 150 safety] Vonn Bell because I would like to play with him at Ohio State.

BN: What’s the best advice you’ve received going into the Under Armour Game?

Burrows: To pay attention to all of the coaches and pick their brains, also to have fun.
