Robinson likes EMU, holding out for Iowa

By Jared Shanker

Linebacker Lavonte Robinson (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Edward) is still holding out for a Big Ten offer, but he has an idea of where he might land if one doesn't come.

Robinson officially visited Eastern Michigan the weekend of Dec. 14, and the Eagles are No. 2 on his list. At the top remains Iowa, which he officially visited in November, and he continues to hold out that the Hawkeyes might send a late offer.

For now, though, the Eagles are the team to beat as Robinson has only one visit left, to Ohio Dominican, a Division II program.

"The [EMU] visit went extremely well," Robinson said. "I enjoyed myself. The coaches showed they wanted me there."

Robinson spent much of his visit with assistant coach Phil Snow. Robinson is a 5-foot-11, 225-pound inside linebacker, and Snow explained that the defense is missing a linebacker who can plug the middle like Robinson.

"They haven't had a real 'Mike' LB," Robinson said. "The one who played this year was a 'Will' linebacker and they moved him to 'Mike.' So I have a good chance to come and play early."

His visit to Ohio Dominican is set for Jan. 11, so Robinson will likely make a decision Jan. 15. He asked the Eagles whether they were willing to wait until then, and Robinson got the assurance.

Three-star teammate Solomon Warfield is an Iowa commit, and Robinson keeps in contact with Iowa assistant coach Brian Ferentz.

"They told me to be patient to see how things play out," Robinson said.
