Aaron Banks has Bowling Green on top
By Jared Shanker
Chicago Simeon safety Aaron Banks has a lead group, and two MAC teams are at the top.
Bowling Green is Banks’ top school and is followed by Ball State as his No. 2. Miami (Ohio) and New Mexico are trailing both schools.
Banks made a visit to Bowling Green earlier this season for its game against Eastern Michigan.
“The coaches impressed me a lot, showed me a lot of love, made me feel at home, like I was with my old coaches,” Banks said.
At Ball State, where Banks visited for the Western Michigan game, it was the coaches as well that made him feel welcome. His first official visit will likely go to the Cardinals the weekend of Dec. 14.
Banks knows a lot about Ball State as one of his former teammates is a redshirt freshman on the Cardinals. Horactio Banks, no relation, played with Banks back in 2010.
“He’s telling me a lot about Ball State and how it’s a great school, they treat each other like family and would be a great fit for me,” Banks said.
New Mexico offered Banks about a month ago and while he admits he does not know much about the program, he is interested in leaving the cold of the Midwest to see something new.
“Talking to the coaches, they like me a lot and I like that they like me a lot,” Banks said. “They call me every week. When a coach does that it lets you know they like you.”
RedHawks assistant Mike Bath is recruiting Banks for Miami, and he’s convinced Banks to take a visit to see the campus.
“He told me it’s a great program, great academically and he told me they’re looking to younger players,” Banks said, “so if I come in and work I possibly can play early.”
