Fighting Illini offer 2015 RB Dre Brown
By Jared Shanker
Sophomore running back Dre Brown goes to DeKalb (Ill.), just two minutes from Northern Illinois. But it was another in-state program that came through with offer No. 1 for Brown.
The 6-foot, 184-pound Brown called Illinois recruiting coordinator Alex Golesh on Tuesday and received the good news.
“They came to one of my games and I went to one of their games, and I thought but wasn’t sure they would offer me,” Brown said. “My coach has been in contact with them too, sending them my film.
“It’s crazy, so surprised an excited. I didn’t think I’d be getting one this early. It’s a blessing.”
That visit came in October for the Penn State game, and even though it was a lopsided loss for the Illini, Brown thoroughly enjoyed the visit.
“It was a lot of fun,” he said. “They gave me a tour and I got to see the facilities and campus. … After the game, even though it was a tough loss, the coaches still came out and the running back, Coach [Tim] Salem, gave me a tour.”
Brown will be back in Champaign this weekend for another visit.
As a sophomore, Brown estimates he rushed for 750 yards and nine touchdowns on 110 carries.
