Justin Brent sees first Notre Dame game
By Jared Shanker
ESPN Watch List receiver Justin Brent (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) lives only a few hours from South Bend in Indianapolis, but the Notre Dame commit had never been to a Fighting Irish game.
He got his first taste of a game at Notre Dame Stadium last Saturday, and he loved it so much he will be back again in two weeks for the Nov. 17 game against Wake Forest.
“Eighty thousand people screaming at the top of their lungs, what more do you want?” Brent said. “It was amazing.”
Brent has seen Notre Dame a few times but never for a football game. He committed to the Irish in July and planned to visit Notre Dame for the Michigan game in September, but a rainout of his high school game forced him to miss it.
Playing against Pitt this past Saturday, Brent was a little upset he wouldn’t get the same atmosphere as the Michigan game. He was wrong, he said.
“I didn’t know if it’d be a game everyone would show up, but they packed it and made me feel so welcome,” Brent said. “It was an emotional roller coaster.”
Several of the 2013 commitments made Brent feel like a part of their class, though Brent won’t get to Notre Dame for almost another two years. He spent a lot of time with offensive line commit Steve Elmer and five-star linebacker Jaylon Smith. Brent sat next to Elmer and talked Indiana high school football and exchanged numbers with Smith.
“We clicked from the beginning,” Brent said. “We had a great time together.”
