Chicago area kind to Spartans once more
By Jared Shanker
Michigan State fortified its Chicago pipeline once more.
Three-star safety Matt Morrissey (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) pledged to the Spartans while on an unofficial visit to East Lansing on Monday.
“I love their coaching staff, their overall school [and] program and they are just great people,” Morrissey said. “[Coach Mark Dantonio] is a great person and is very upfront and real with you. I have so much respect for him.”
Boston College and Syracuse also were near the top for Morrissey, who also liked Wisconsin although the Badgers did not offer.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensive back in commitment No. 13 in the Spartans’ class. He is the fourth commit from the Chicago area, joining Brian Allen, Chase Gianacakos and Enoch Smith. All are ranked in the top 40 in Illinois in the 2014 class.
The name should be familiar for Spartans fans. Morrissey’s father, Jim, was a former linebacker, and his sister, Anna, is a guard for the women’s basketball team. His mother is also a Michigan State graduate.
“They were obviously very excited,” Morrissey said. “Both my parents are MSU alumni so they are pumped.”
