After a nice visit up north, running back Brock Broughton (Kearney, Mo./Kearney) is preparing to take a visit a little closer to home.
Broughton went to Minnesota last week for the Golden Gophers' junior day. On Saturday, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound back will take in Manhattan, Kan., and attend the Kansas State junior day -- roughly two hours away via car from his home. This is a return trip to Kansas State, as he toured the campus on an unofficial visit in November.
“I’m just looking to see how dedicated the coaches are and how much they care for their program,” Broughton said. “I’ve seen the school; I was there for an unofficial visit and saw the locker rooms and facilities. I just want to get a little more in-depth on what I saw on my unofficial visit.”
Broughton said the Minnesota trip was better than he expected. He didn’t pick up a scholarship offer, but the Golden Gophers are highly interested in him.
“It was very cool to go there and see everything,” he said. “I’d heard some stuff about it, but the fact is, when you heard coaches talking, you could tell they’re committed and dedicated. That’s what I wanted to see from them.”
Broughton is still looking for his first offer, but he has interest from Minnesota, Kansas State, Nebraska, Arizona State and several other programs. Additionally, Broughton said interest has come recently from Alabama and Michigan.
Broughton rushed for 1,595 yards and 20 touchdowns, and he recorded 216 receiving yards and had five touchdown receptions as a junior. He’s been clocked in the 40-yard dash at 4.53 seconds at a combine at Missouri Western.
