Some of the top prospects in the 2014 class are already talking about playing together in college. Following Saturday, that place could be Ohio State.
ESPN Watch List quarterback Drew Barker (Hebron, Ky./Conner) was talking with fellow Watch List prospects Raekwon McMillan (Hinesville, Ga./Liberty County) and Clifton Garrett (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) about all teaming up for the same program in 2014, and all three were at Ohio State for the Michigan game. Class of 2013 commits Ezekiel Elliott and Jalin Marshall were doing their best to persuade the trio, too.
"We were all talking about how sweet it would be if we all went to the same school. They were saying Ohio State is the place to be, Coach [Urban] Meyer, he's started the [career] off right, first season going 12-0, can't get any better than a perfect season, jump on the Ohio State Buckeye train and get things going, that's what they were saying," Barker said.
After the game, Buckeyes quarterbacks coach Tom Herman told Barker he will be in to see him two weeks after making a stop in Texas -- presumably to visit the school of ESPN 150 linebacker Mike Mitchell (Plano, Texas/Prestonwood Christian Academy). The 6-foot-4, 205-pound quarterback already holds offers from seven programs, with the likes of Cincinnati, Louisville and South Carolina among them.
Ohio State would be among the favorites if the Buckeyes offer.
"He said this week he's going to head into Texas to finish with 2013 stuff then gonna visit with me next week," Barker said. "I'm not sure what that means, if that means anything like an offer."
The Buckeyes coaches repeatedly have told 2014 quarterbacks they're recruiting that the position won't be evaluated until after the season. As of now, Ohio State has only one offer out to a 2014 signal-caller, and he is committed elsewhere.
If Herman does offer in two weeks or down the line, Barker, who has visited Ohio State five times, said that does not mean he'd commit on the spot.
"They'd definitely be at the top, and that'd definitely be an honor to get an offer from them," Barker said. "A lot of people ask if I'd commit on the spot but I'm liking a lot of other schools. I'm not going to just blow them off. I'm going to make sure I make the right decision and stick with my spring deadline."
In Columbus for his third game, Barker said the trip was pretty similar to the other two but this was "craziest game I've seen this season."
