Logan Dziak doesn't want to leave Duke

11/4/2012

Junior defensive lineman Logan Dziak (Delaware, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) made visits to both NC State and Duke this weekend, but one of those visits completely blew him away.

NC State received the first visit, but it proved to be just an appetizer for Dziak’s visit to Duke, after which he said he “wanted to stay there.”

“It was fantastic,” Dziak said. “I loved everything about it.”

While the NC State visit was still good, the 6-foot-2, 274-pound defensive tackle was a little bummed when the NC State coaches told him he’s a little undersized for what they are looking for at the position. The Duke trip more than made up for it, though.

Dziak left NC State during the third quarter of its loss to Virginia to get to Durham in time for the Blue Devils’ game against Clemson. Before the game, Dziak went on a campus tour with his father, and that really made an impression.

“The campus is gorgeous,” he said. “I don’t know what it is, but there’s just something about I just loved. … It’s like magical. It’s all well-made. I visited Notre Dame before and that’s something it compares to.”

For the last several weeks, Dziak has been in contact with Duke’s Matt Guerrieri, and he said it was nice to put a face with a name when he finally met the Blue Devils graduate assistant.

“He was telling me they’re going to watch my film and going to start the evaluation process early,” Dziak said. “He said to stay in contact with him.”

The visit was going so well for Dziak, he decided to stay despite the cold and Duke's 56-20 loss.

Next weekend, Dziak will visit Michigan, which he says is one of his favorites after visiting in the summer. He is also planning visits to Kent State and Pittsburgh on Thanksgiving weekend.

Dziak finished his junior season with 48 tackles and six sacks for 7-3 Buckeye Valley.
