Jamarco Jones (Chicago/De La Salle) saw an opportunity and the 6-foot-5, 285-pound offensive tackle jumped on it.
With offers from both Michigan State and Notre Dame, the big-time junior recruit headed to East Lansing, Mich., for an unofficial visit to watch the Spartans and Fighting Irish go toe-to-toe Saturday.
“It was a pretty good game,” Jones said. “I thought both teams played pretty hard. I liked what I saw from their offenses. I saw good in both teams.”
While Jones witnessed a 20-3 Notre Dame victory, he wasn’t there to eliminate one team over the other instead looking at schemes and watching offensive line trends.
“I wasn’t trying to compare so much as trying to find things I like from both teams,” Jones said. “I liked their line play. They’re two different types of offenses.
“Notre Dame is more of a spread offense and Michigan State is more of a pro-style offense. I’m used to playing in both of them, so I was just looking to see what both teams did.”
His next step is another game with the Fighting Irish on Oct. 6. But no one should read too much into that, either, as Notre Dame will take on Miami right around the corner from Jones in Soldier Field.
After that, his schedule is up in the air.
Jones also holds offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue and Vanderbilt.
