Dominique Booth gets red carpet treatment

9/16/2012

With one of the biggest wide receivers in the 2014 class on hand, it was only fitting that a wideout came up with the play of the game to lift Ohio State over Cal 35-28.

Dominique Booth (Indianapolis/Pike) was in Columbus on Saturday for an unofficial visit and saw Braxton Miller hook up with Devin Smith on a 72-yard touchdown pass with 3:26 left in front of 105,232 in Ohio Stadium.

“It was great,” Booth said. “The whole time I was watching how the wide receivers played. I saw the DB come up and I knew it was going to be a touchdown. Everybody in the whole stadium knew that was the game right there. It was loud.”

What Booth didn’t expect was a chance to go behind the scenes afterwards and rehash the play in the locker room.

One of a select few to go into the locker room after the game, Booth got a chance to talk to the wide receivers about the play and to assistant coach Zach Smith.

“It was nice to go in there after the game and talk to the receivers and Coach Smith about it,” Booth said. “It was cool. It was pretty amazing.

“I saw my name in red on their board, so I guess they think highly of me. They said I’m one of their top recruits and said [an offer] would come. I just had to be patient.”

As for the atmosphere itself, Booth has been to Illinois and Missouri so far on unofficial visits and said he’s headed to next week’s game at Notre Dame against Michigan, but the Buckeye faithful left a lasting impression.

“It was great,” he said. “I was real impressed with the turnout and the crowd. The game plan was nice, too. I liked seeing how everything worked. It was fun.”

Booth already has offers from Cal, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Missouri, Mississippi, Ole Miss, Purdue and Wisconsin.

He also has interest from virtually everyone else, including Ohio State.
