Two-way lineman Poet Thomas (Beverly Hills, Mich./Country Day) is closing in on double-digit offers, and depending on who that next offer is, it could spell the end of Thomas’ recruitment.
Michigan State and Texas Tech are two programs high on the 6-foot-5, 290-pound offensive tackle/defensive tackle. He’s hoping to land an offer from both schools in the next few weeks. Thomas is planning to attend Michigan State’s opener against Boise State on Friday night.
“I’m going to send them my film, hopefully they get it and like what they see and I get an offer,” he said. “I really want to get that offer.”
Colorado, Florida, Kansas, SMU and Texas Tech are a handful of other teams Thomas is high on. Florida is taking its time with Thomas despite an offer.
As for official visits, he wants to see all five of those schools.
“I’m going to take one to Kansas, Colorado, Florida if possible, SMU, Texas Tech,” he said. “… I’m kind of liking the down-South schools.”
The Red Raiders are a new name in Thomas’ recruitment and picked up their interest over the summer.
“It’s one of the best schools in Texas, really good seasons in the past, really good coach [Tommy Tuberville],” Thomas said. “The O-line coach [Chris Thomsen] is a phenomenal guy, and they put some good guys in the league. The academics are great.”
As for a decision timetable, it all depends on when and if Michigan State and Texas Tech offer.
“Never know, maybe when the right one comes in,” Thomas said. “I’ve already been thinking of where I want to go.”
