It did not take long for Austin Schmidt (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) to jump on his offer from Illinois. He picked up the scholarship Saturday afternoon, made a quick call to his parents and committed shortly thereafter.
"Well I went to their junior day earlier this year and when I went I pretty much liked everything about it, loved the campus and obviously the football program is great," the 6-foot-5, 258-pound offensive tackle said.
With Schmidt's commitment, the Fighting Illini staff has picked up four commitments in a little over a week and have eight total.
