Solon (Ohio) coach Jim McQuaide has had a number of BCS programs walk into his high school the last few weeks and inquire about a handful of players, most notably cornerback Darian Hicks. Over the last two days, two assistant coaches offered Hicks a scholarship, while visiting.
Virginia extended an offer to Hicks on Monday, and Minnesota followed with an offer the following afternoon, Hicks said.
The Minnesota offer caught Hicks off guard as he said he has not had any verbal contact with the coaching staff at Minnesota. Virginia assistant Bill Lazor and Hicks spoke before, though.
Hicks now has 15 offers with scholarships from Iowa, Michigan State, Penn State and West Virginia among them. He has made recent visits to Illinois, Michigan State and Ohio State.
