Spartans offer Lawrence Marshall on visit

11/5/2012

It turns out it was the second time that was the charm for Southfield (Mich.) defensive end Lawrence Marshall. On his second visit to Michigan State, the junior lineman added an offer from the Spartans.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Marshall got the offer directly from coach Mark Dantonio, too.

“Coach Dantonio told me, ‘I’d like to offer you a scholarship to Michigan State,’ ” Marshall said. “I was very happy, more happy because it came from him.”

Although Marshall’s season ended with a playoff loss Friday, he had another solid outing, posting 11 tackles and two sacks. He does not know his full-season stats, but he racked up the sacks for Southfield. It’s his ability to break into opponents’ backfields that has the Spartans so high on the in-state product.

“They like my highlight tape and how I get to the quarterback a lot,” he said.

Marshall first visited Michigan State earlier this season for the game against Notre Dame. Although both visits ended in Michigan State losses, Marshall said the atmosphere was great for both games.

The coaches at Michigan State are what he likes most about the Spartans, though, not the game day experience.

“All the coaches are nice and easy to talk to,” he said.

Toledo will host Marshall on a visit Tuesday for its game against Ball State. The Rockets, along with Bowling Green and San Diego State, have offered Marshall as well.
