Offensive tackle Ja’Merez Bowen (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) knew interest would start coming around with players such as Division I prospects Donovan Munger and Joe Henderson for teammates. He just never expected that interest to blow up the way it has in his junior season.
Schools such as Georgia, Illinois, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Ohio State and Syracuse nibbled early with interest, but when Akron, North Carolina State, Pitt and UCLA offered, the 6-foot-5, 265-pound junior’s world turned on its ear.
“It means a lot to know colleges are recognizing my play,” Bowen said. “For them to even offer means a lot.”
What meant even more was the offer from the Bruins. Bowen indicated he might tag along with Munger next month if his defensive tackle teammate travels to Pasadena, Calif., to watch UCLA take on USC on Nov. 17. And he’ll go there with eyes wide open.
“UCLA’s offer means the most,” Bowen said. “They’re in California and what I mean by that is they’re all the way over there and I’m way over here in Ohio. For them to even recognize me means a lot. I hope I get looks like Donovan has. I’d bring a great positive attitude. I’m ready to play all the time.”
