Originally, William White (Detroit/Cass Tech) was supposed to visit Indiana with several of his teammates. It ended up just being him and his parents, but that did not spoil the junior inside linebacker’s weekend.
“It was a beautiful campus and facilities, weight room is very beautiful and academics wise they’re very good as well, and that’s the No. 1 thing,” White said.
It was the first time White has visited Indiana, and the 6-foot, 220-pound inside linebacker always considered Indiana a basketball school. And while basketball will always reign supreme in Bloomington, the visit changed White’s perception of the Hoosiers.
“I really thought Indiana was a basketball school, but it showed me the football program is on the rise and they’re coming up to be a better team,” White said.
For White, the best part of his visit was the atmosphere. It was Indiana’s biggest game of the year and it was played in prime time against an undefeated Ohio State. Although Indiana came up just short, White was surprised at how vocal the Hoosiers’ fans were.
“The crowd stayed in the game the whole time, never saw the crowd give up and they kept going and it brought the team spirit up and almost brought them back,” White said. “They came back at the end and it showed me the team doesn’t give up and fights until the end.”
White spoke with Indiana coach Kevin Wilson and recruiting assistant Linwood Ferguson while on the visit, and both expressed their interest in White. Both want to see some more tape and White down on another visit before possibly offering.
Toledo is White’s first and only offer, although he said Cincinnati and Ohio State like him as well. He will visit Toledo this coming weekend.
“I just like the program. It’s a good, winning program and I like the coaching staff,” White said of Toledo.
