Colleges noticing 2014 DT Kevin Willis

9/26/2012

INDIANAPOLIS -- The regular season did not start as well as Kevin Willis (Indianapolis/Lawrence Central) would have liked. An ankle injury limited him, and he was not making the plays he was accustomed to making.

Now more than halfway through his junior season and with his ankle healed, Willis is back to showing why he is one of Indiana's top 2014 prospects and already on the radar of BCS programs.

"I started picking up my game, and I started believing in myself," he said. "I didn't believe in myself in the first half."

However, there was not much reason for Willis to doubt himself. The 6-foot-2, 275-pound defensive tackle was playing well and already drew an offer from Indiana during the summer.

Willis camped at Indiana in June, and the coaching staff let Lawrence Central coach Jayson West know Willis had an offer from the Hoosiers.

"They liked everything, liked how I paid attention, liked how I was a quick learner," Willis said.

On the flip side, Willis is high on what Indiana has to offer.

"I like almost everything," he said. "The coaching staff is excellent. Their team plays hard every down, they don’t take a play off for anything."

Indianapolis is a major recruiting area for Iowa, and Willis believes the Hawkeyes could be the next to offer him.

"They’ve seen a little bit of my film. They like what they see and want to see how I do at the end of the season," he said. "At the end of the season they’ll let me know if I get an offer."

If not Iowa, Willis believes Wisconsin could eventually offer.

"They think I'd be a great D-tackle there," he said.

Cincinnati and Louisville are also showing early interest in Willis.
