The University of Akron literally sits in the shadows of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.
Fransohn Bickley can probably tell Zips fans exactly how many steps it takes to get to campus.
The Irish wide receiver has interest from Toledo, Ohio University, Kent State and Akron, but really wants the Zips to step to the plate.
“They saw me at two camps and liked what I was doing,” Bickley said. “I’m hoping to get an offer from them. I hope they see a couple of my tapes and say ‘Wow. We need him right now.’ That’s what I hope they’ll say.”
To date, Bickley has been doing it on special teams -- he returned a punt for a touchdown against Walsh Jesuit this year -- and at receiver.
At 5-foot-8 and 145 pounds, Lewis probably won’t get offers from BCS schools. His speed, agility and ability to elude defenders, however, have Mid-American Conference schools taking notice.
So if the offer came from the Zips, what would Bickley do?
“I’m not even sure,” he said. “They’d be the first offer, so I wouldn’t know what to do. I’d be too excited.”
