For Tim McVey (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) it was a no-brainer.
Kent State, Ohio University, Toledo and Buffalo were all vying for his services, but in the end the choice was clear.
“For me, it was Buffalo,” McVey said. “It felt like the perfect fit. They’re a great college in terms of academics. My parents were happy with it. I was happy with it. The coaches make me feel comfortable.”
A third-team Division I All-Ohio running back, the 5-foot-9, 185-pound McVey, who rushed for 1,302 yards and 15 touchdowns, will switch to strong safety when he heads to Buffalo.
As a junior, McVey registered 24 tackles, six tackles for losses, four sacks, a safety, and four quarterback hurries to help the Wildcats to a state title.
It’s a switch, McVey is looking forward to.
“They like me on the defensive side and on special teams and they told me I could be a great asset to the team,” he said. “My brother (Scott, a former Ohio State Buckeye) was a defensive guy, so I have defense in my blood. It’s fun.”
