Vanderbilt’s strong weekend continues.
Defensive end Mike Tyler (Broadview Heights, Brecksville-Broadview Heights) committed to the Commodores on Sunday evening.
“At Vandy I don't have to choose between great football and great academics, I can have both,” Tyler wrote in an email.
Tyler picked up an offer from Vanderbilt during the week, and the 6-foot-5, 220-pound senior quickly bonded with the coaching staff while on a two-day visit over the weekend.
“(Defensive line) Coach [Sean] Spencer has so much energy, he's somebody that I really look forward to playing for," he wrote.
Tyler camped at Vanderbilt last month.
He also held offers from Air Force, Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Rice, Syracuse and Western Michigan. Several Ivy League programs also offered.
“I like the players and feel really great about everything at Vandy,” he wrote. “That’s why it was so easy to commit after camp last month and a two-day visit this weekend.”
