Chicago RB Sanders enjoys Purdue trip

8/2/2012

A new name to emerge from Chicago, 2013 Robeson running back Devon Sanders recently picked up his first offer.

Purdue is the first program to jump on the 5-foot-9, 180-pound back, and Sanders took a visit to West Lafayette on Wednesday.

“Everything went great, people seem really nice,” Sanders said. “The coaches were great. Everything was fantastic. It was a great experience.”

Sanders made it to Purdue’s campus around 10 a.m. and received a tour of the weight room and all of the football facilities. He then saw the academic buildings before meeting with much of the entire staff, including coach Danny Hope.

“He seems like a real nice man,” Sanders said. “He told me a lot of stuff about how their program works.”

Running backs coach Cornell Jackson spent most of the day with Sanders, and the two talked about the expectations if Sanders committed to Purdue.

“He was telling me they like the way I play, that I seem like a nice person, a hard-working person and a good kid,” Sanders said. “And when I get to Purdue – if I decide to go there – to be ready to work and be ready to put in the effort.”

The trip ended with Sanders touring the stadium.

Despite the Boilermakers being his lone offer with the season just on the horizon, Sanders will wait it out and take his recruitment into the fall. He does not have a firm timetable but said a decision could come toward the middle or end of his senior season.

As a junior, Sanders rushed for 1,558 yards and 26 touchdowns on 200 carries.
