ATH Andre Harris chooses Iowa

6/22/2012

Commitment No. 11 is in for Iowa as rising athlete Andre Harris (Kirkwood, Mo.) gave his verbal pledge Friday.

Harris, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound cornerback/receiver at Kirkwood, visited Iowa on Thursday and said the campus, coaching staff and overall environment won him over. He chose the Hawkeyes over an offer from Illinois and interest from Northwestern, Kansas State, Kansas, Wisconsin and several other programs.

“It feels good, a lot of relieved stress,” Harris said about committing. “Iowa’s a good school. I went and saw lot of things I liked that interested me. I saw myself being there in the future.”

As a receiver, Harris caught 22 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns as a junior. Defensively, he had 29 tackles and four interceptions – one of which he ran back for a touchdown – as a cornerback. Harris said he is projected to be a receiver for the Hawkeyes.

Harris was recruited by Iowa tight ends coach Eric Johnson. He became the second player from Missouri to commit to the Hawkeyes, joining fellow athlete Derrick Mitchell Jr. (St. Louis/Vashon), who committed Thursday.
