One of the top programs annually in Ohio, Cleveland Glenville had six seniors sign with BCS teams in the Class of 2012. Always loaded with talent, it could be more of the same in 2013.
Christopher Worley leads the group with a handful of offers headlined by Arkansas and Ohio State, but he’s spending more time in the classroom and preparing for his senior season rather than recruiting. Chris Overton is waiting for his first offer but could see his recruiting start heating up as he adjusts to playing just receiver and cornerback after splitting time at quarterback in 2011.
Here are a number of others still looking for their first offer and what assistant coach Tony Overton had to say about each:
RB Herbert Walker (2013): “He shared time with [2012 Illinois signee] V’Angelo Bentley as a junior and still lead the team in rushing touchdowns. He had about 500 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns. He’s a real stocky kid, but not fat. He’s great between the tackles with real good quickness. He’ll be a major player for us this year. He’s really worked on his speed this year in the track season.”
LB/S Singleton Grant (2013): “He’s about 6-foot-1, 175 and can even play corner. He kind of reminds me of Worley. He didn’t play as much because of seniors in his spot but he made some good plays. He has good speed and he’s a real rangy guy. He has a lot of potential at the next level, too.”
OL/DL Darrell Benjamin (2013): “He’s a defensive tackle but played offensive line. He started on the O-line because he’s so smart. He’s more of a 1-technique in college, and you’ll see a lot of that. Him and Chris Overton have been playing since they were sophomores because they’re both so intelligent. They’re 4.0 students and guys that have to be on the field.”
CB Shareef Shabazz (2013): “He’s 5-foot-11, 185, real well-built kid, similar to Christian Bryant who’s playing at Ohio State. He was our third corner last year behind V’Angelo and Sean Draper [Iowa signee]. This year he’s projected to be the No. 1 corner. I think this year he’ll be the guy.
OL Diamante’ Marshall (2013): “Diamante’ tore his ACL in the first game. He’s full working out now."
OL Marcellous Jones (2014): "He’s about 6-foot-5, 290-300 pounds. He started at center the first two games against St. Edward and Camden County. He’ll be the anchor for sure."
QB Quan Robinson (2014): “He was a starter last year and split time with Chris [Overton]. He knows so much and he’s so athletic. Quan wants to be a quarterback, that’s all he plays. I hope, as an offensive coordinator, Quan can step up and handle the position so Chris can concentrate on being a receiver.”
CB/RB/WR Marshon Lattimore (2014): “He’s a great athlete that I’m expecting a lot out of this year. He’s stepping up and starting. He’d be the other wideout with Chris. I expect big things with him.”
