Marshall picks up first commit from Ohio OL

4/10/2012

Marshall picked up its first commitment of the 2013 class over the last week shortly after center Cody Collins (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) visited.

Collins visited Marshall on Apr. 4 and said he knew it was the right place for him.

“I went up there and I felt like it was right, and I told my dad I liked everything and wanted to commit,” Collins said.

One of the main factors in Collins’ recruitment is the opportunity to see the field early, and he believes the door is open to do that for the Thundering Herd.

“Right now their center is a walk-on, so I can get early playing time,” he said. “That’s what I was looking at in schools.”

Academics also played a significant role as Collins plans to major in forensic science, similar to the popular TV show CSI.

Beginning this coming season, Collins will anchor the offensive line at Trotwood-Madison instead of Archbishop Alter. With the move, Collins feels he could see more interest and is not closing the door to other programs.

Bowling Green, Ohio, Toledo and Western Kentucky have also offered, and Boston College, Cincinnati, Michigan State and Tennessee are showing interest. An offer from a BCS program could get Collins, who considers himself a soft commit, to flip.

“We’ll see what happens if something big comes down,” Collins said.
