One of the more athletic receivers in Ohio in the Class of 2013, Trey Kilgore (Cincinnati/St. Xavier) is starting to attract FBS interest and offers.
Kilgore added offer No. 2 recently when Kent State tendered the receiver and part-time Wildcat quarterback.
“They want me to go up there and meet [the coaches] face to face so they can get to know me a little better and they want me come to some spring practices,” Kilgore said.
In February, Kilgore earned his first offer from Akron. The offer caught Kilgore off guard for a few reasons. First, Kilgore had not been in contact with the Zips staff, and second, the the offer came right before a playoff basketball game.
“It was a definitely a pump up,” Kilgore said. “There’s nothing better than getting something you worked for all year. I’m pretty sure anybody who plays football wants to get something like that. It was great to finally have an offer.”
With Kilgore’s basketball game that same day, he didn’t speak with the Akron coaches long. The staff did convey to Kilgore that they feel he can be an immediate contributor if he commits.
“He watched my film and liked it. He thought I can have a major impact on their team,” Kilgore said.
With basketball just ending, Kilgore is ready to start making some visits. He went to Illinois recently and said the trip went well. On Mar. 30, he will check out Northwestern.
“I’ve been talking to coach [Randy] Bates up there. He said he wants to offer me but he wants to see me in person first before he does,” Kilgore said. “He told me he would be showing me the campus and then the next day we’ll head to spring practice and see how the team works and everything. I heard it’s real nice up there.”
Cincinnati, Miami (Ohio) and Western Kentucky are also showing interest. He will likely visit Cincinnati in the near future.
