Notre Dame picked up its second commitment in the 2013 class on Tuesday night when ESPNU Watch List prospect Jacob Matuska (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) verbally pledged to the Fighting Irish.
“The campus is top notch, and he’s a Catholic school product so Notre Dame has been in the forefront of his life,” Bishop Hartley coach Brad Burchfield said.
“It’s a dream come true for him.”
Matuska, who stands 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds, was recruited for both offense and defense by the Irish. Matuska’s future in South Bend could be at tight end or at defensive end or outside linebacker.
“He’s a versatile, big-skilled athlete. That’s what Notre Dame was looking for and that’s what they got,” Burchfield said. “… He’s really smart and obviously very physical.”
The Irish bested Michigan for Matuska’s services. A number of other Midwest and national programs also offered Matuska.
Matuska joins Midland (Mich.) offensive lineman Steve Elmer as the Irish’s 2013 commitments. Elmer is also a member of the ESPNU Watch List.
