Early playing time key for Antonio Allen

2/21/2012

INDIANAPOLIS – Junior strong safety Antonio Allen (Indianapolis/Ben Davis) doesn’t know where is going to be playing his college ball next fall, but he knows he will be playing.

“I’m going to make my decision on where I can play at, because I’m not trying to go nowhere and sit on the bench. That’s my main thing,” Allen said. “I’m trying to come in and play. I’m going to graduate early so I can play spring ball.”

Allen said he is already on track to graduate early. He holds offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky and Purdue, and he is receiving interest from Georgia Tech and a few other Big Ten programs.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound safety does not have any favorites at the moment, but he was surprised and impressed with the Hoosiers on a visit to Indiana.

“They got more respect from me now since I visited,” Allen said. “At first I was kind of blowing them off, but they got more respect now. The coaches are all right, and I’m going to see how their season goes this year. I like the environment, talked to a couple players and they seemed all right.”

This coming weekend, Allen will visit Purdue. He visited Kentucky for a game this past season, too.

At a combine Monday, Allen said he did “OK” during the drills, but Allen is a player who looks best in pads and earned the nickname “Woo Woo” for his eyebrow-raising hits during the season.

“I like to look in they stomach and bend they knees in, so they can fall backward so I can always win,” Allen said smiling. “I don’t like to lose. One of my fears is getting ran over.”
