INDIANAPOLIS -- Will Muschamp and Florida had a big weekend with six commitments stemming from the Gators’ junior day, and the good news continued to come on Monday, halfway across the country. No, the Gators did not pick up another commitment, but they are in great position to land another ESPNU Watch List prospect.
“Probably Florida out of all them,” Avon (Ind.) defensive end Elijah Daniel said when asked about favorites.
The 6-foot-4, 250-pound junior watched the haul the Gators pulled in this weekend from afar, too.
“I saw that and was like, ‘That’s what’s up,’ ” a smiling Daniel said. “They got Fred Taylor’s son. He’s good.”
Daniel talks with Gators assistant Bryant Young regularly, and Daniel said the two have a strong relationship already.
“Me and him got a real good connection,” Daniel said. “Sometimes we talk about football, but we talk about what’s going on as far as grades and family and how we’ve been doing like we’ve known each other.”
Kentucky, Minnesota, Ole Miss and Syracuse have offered Daniel recently, and he is hoping to check out some of those schools.
He is also hoping to make it up to Michigan at some point. Daniel has seen Michigan before but wants to take a closer look.
Daniel’s recruiter is Wolverines assistant Curt Mallory, who has ties to the Hoosier state.
“He seems like a pretty good dude,” Daniel said. “He likes my film and how I play and that I fit real good into their system and stuff like that.”
