Sebastian Smith closer to NU offer?

1/15/2012

When two-star safety Sebastian Smith (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) decommitted from Indiana in January, Nebraska immediately became the favorite for Smith.

This past weekend, Smith made it out to Lincoln, Neb., for the first time and was “impressed with everything” the Huskers have to offer.

“It was not what I expected. It was real different. I liked it,” Smith said.

“Coming from Ohio and Ohio State, it’s a big change because I see a lot of Ohio State stuff. It’s straight Huskers and Nebraska. Obviously they love the team.”

Smith said he enjoyed every part of his visit, but a few things stuck out to him on his weekend in Lincoln.

“I just felt like they really support the student-athletes. They take care of you when you’re there,” Smith said. “Their facilities are top of the line. The campus had a lot of new buildings. It’s just really nice.”

Smith spent a lot of time with Huskers coach Bo Pelini on both Saturday and Sunday morning, and Smith said it’s clear the Huskers want him.

“He feels like I’m the kind of guy they want -- a good person,” Smith said. “He wants me to be a Husker.”

However, Smith is still waiting on an offer from the Huskers.

“[Pelini] basically told me they’re going to stay in contact like every day, and I’ll call the coaches and talk to them,” Smith said. “[An offer] will be coming soon because signing day is coming up. It’ll be coming, so it doesn’t bother me. When I was there they cared about, and that’s all I wanted.”

Smith has no other official visits lined up and is not talking with any other teams, including Indiana.
