Two-star receiver Gehrig Dieter (South Bend, Ind./Washington), a multiple national record holder, committed to SMU on Tuesday at the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl.
Dieter chose the Mustangs over Kansas, which offered shortly after Charlie Weis was named coach.
SMU was Dieter's longtime favorite after Mustangs coach June Jones offered Dieter during the season. He visited in early December and a late visit to Kansas still wasn't enough to move the Mustangs from the top of Dieter's list.
As a senior, Dieter began the season with three straight 300-yard receiving games. In the last game of that stretch, he finished with 447 yards, a national record. He holds one other national record and six Indiana state records.
