Football Recruiting - Midlands Region: Jacorey Warrick

Only three days after Texas coaches first contacted a Washington State commit, he has flipped his verbal pledge and will sign with the Longhorns.

Three-star Amarillo (Texas) Palo Duro receiver Montrel Meander confirmed to HornsNation in a text message that he's committed to Texas.

Meander originally committed to playing safety at Washington State on Jan. 20, but Texas receivers coach Darrell Wyatt stunned him by showing up at Palo Duro on Friday to inqure about his interest in visiting Texas.

After initially saying he was sticking with Washington State, Meander flew to Austin on Saturday for an official visit. Now he's the 15th member of Texas' 2013 recruiting class and its third receiver pledge, joining Jake Oliver (Dallas/Jesuit) and Jacorey Warrick (Houston/Cypress Falls).

As a senior at Palo Duro, Meander played safety and running back. He rushed for 572 yards and eight touchdowns this fall. Prior to committing to Washington State, Meander took official visits to San Diego State, UTSA and Colorado State.

If there is one thing you can say about Longhorns running back commitment Kyle Hicks (Arlington, Texas/Martin) it’s that he is as tough as they come.

For the second time in two seasons Hicks has suffered a serious injury at the end of his football season, the latest is a tear of his left ACL and meniscus.

Hicks said he was injured on Oct. 26 in a 42-21 win over Arlington Lamar, but that he didn’t do the most damage until two weeks later in a 44-26 loss to Arlington Bowie.

A Texas commit’s prolific senior season has come to an unexpected early end.

Houston Cypress Falls four-star receiver Jacorey Warrick will miss the remainder of his season after suffering a torn meniscus in his right knee. The injury occurred during Cy Falls’ 37-35 loss to Houston Langham Creek on Thursday night.

“I think it happened on a cut,” Warrick said. “I felt something pop in the second quarter, but I just played through it. It kind of came back, so I got it checked out on Friday and got an MRI.”

Longhorns shine at The Opening

BEAVERTON, Ore. -- The Opening has come to a conclusion, and Texas fans learned a couple of things.

First, Jake Raulerson (Celina, Texas/Celina) is pretty versatile. Second, and perhaps the bigger story, A’Shawn Robinson (Fort Worth, Texas/Arlington Heights) is a lot better than advertised.

While Raulerson showed his worth among the best as an offensive lineman, even he had to yield to the play of Robinson, particularly during the lineman drills on Sunday. Raulerson watched Robinson shred through offensive linemen and said Robinson is highly underrated on a national level.

Ricky Seals-Jones decommits from Texas

Ricky Seals-Jones, the nation’s No. 1 wide receiver recruit, has de-committed from Texas.

The five-star recruit from Sealy, Texas, confirmed his decision to back out of his pledge in a text message to HornsNation.

A 6-foot-5, 220-pound receiver ranked No. 7 in the ESPN 150, Seals-Jones originally picked Texas over LSU on Feb. 22.

Prior to his decision to decommit, there were no signs Seals-Jones was wavering in his decision. He joined the rest of UT’s 2013 recruiting class in attending Texas’ first summer camp on Sunday.

With the loss of Seals-Jones, Texas now has 14 verbal commits for its 2013 class, including pledges from receivers Jacorey Warrick (Houston/Cypress Falls) and Jake Oliver (Dallas/Jesuit).

Read the rest of the story from Max Olson and William Wilkerson.
Jacorey Warrick (Houston/Cy Falls) lives by one particular sentence on his Twitter page, a sentence that tends to separate the good from the elite.

“When you want to succeed as bad as you wanna breathe, then you’ll be successful,” the page reads.

Success fuels Warrick, which easily explains why he is an ESPN 150 player and a Texas commitment. With all of his accolades, Warrick added to his resume Wednesday night, as the 5-foot-11, 170-pound wide receiver earned an invitation to The Opening, a four-day training and competition event featuring the nation's top 150 players July 5-8 at the Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.

Torrodney Prevot (Houston/Alief Taylor) won’t join Deoundrei Davis (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods) and Jacorey Warrick (Houston/Cypress Falls) as players that committed to Texas on Sunday. But he could if he wanted to.

Prevot (6-foor-4, 220 pounds) took part in Texas’ second junior day on Saturday and, like most everyone else, left without an offer. But he spoke with Longhorns defensive ends coach Oscar Giles a short time ago and picked one up.

“It gives me another option, a good option and they are in my top three schools,” Prevot said. “I don’t know the other schools but I do know Texas is one of them.”

Jacorey Warrick planned to keep quiet when it came to his recruitment. He didn't want to reach a decision without visiting all of his top colleges.

But on Saturday, a visit to Austin was just what Warrick needed to make up his mind. The Houston Cypress Falls athlete got his offer and became commit No. 8 for Texas on Sunday.

Longhorn coaches have recruited the 5-foot-11, 175-pound junior to play slot receiver.

Kirk Eaton wouldn’t be surprised at all if Jacorey Warrick came home from Austin with a Texas offer on Saturday night. The Houston Cy Falls coach is confident his speedy junior is one of the best receivers in the state of Texas.

“He’s the best I’ve ever seen, the best we’ve ever had,” Eaton said. “I don’t know how many great slot receivers there are in the state, but I promise you he’s the best one.”

Warrick picked up two more offers on Friday, from Missouri and Oklahoma State, and now has 11 total. While Eaton was in Austin today for the state wresting tournament, he also spoke with Texas coach Mack Brown and defensive ends coach Oscar Giles.

When Jacorey Warrick (Houston/Cypress Falls) looked back at his time spent in the office of Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops, he used these words:

“I was in amazement.”

And he’s not talking about Stoops’ plush digs.
