Samples signs with Oklahoma State
By Brandon Chatmon
Under Armour All-American receiver Ra'Shaad Samples (Dallas/Skyline) has signed with Oklahoma State after flirting with Kentucky in the final month of the recruiting cycle.
Rated the nation's No. 166 prospect in the ESPN 300, Samples visited UK on Jan. 11 before taking his official visit to Stillwater, Okla., the following week, which secured Samples' signature for the Cowboys.
Samples originally committed to OSU on July 7 and never decommitted. Signing Samples is huge for OSU as 5-foot-11, 170-pound slot receiver should be able to make an immediate impact this fall.
What is the impact of Ra'Shaad Samples' decision?
What it means for Oklahoma State: A sigh of relief. One day after losing Fred Ross Jr. (Tyler, Texas/John Tyler), one of their top receiving commitments, to Mississippi State, the Cowboys secured Samples. The Under Armour All-American is a huge get for OSU as his competitiveness and playmaking should make him and impact player in Stillwater.
What it means for the Kentucky: UK was a little late to the game and landing Samples would have been icing on the cake for Mark Stoops during his first recruiting cycle. Regardless, the Wildcats put together a terrific class in a short amount of time.
Turning point: OSU bringing in Samples for his official visit after his visit to Kentucky helped seal the deal and remind the talented receiver why he picked the Cowboys in the first place.
Surprise (scale of 1-5): 1. Samples has been committed to OSU and never decommitted despite taking the visit to UK.
Immediate impact (scale of 1-5): 5. With OSU’s offensive system and tendancy to rotate receivers, expect Samples to earn a spot on the field as a freshman, much like Josh Stewart did in 2011.
