Cuse commit Winfield gets late offer
By Jared Shanker
Corey Winfield (St. Louis/Riverview Gardens) was all set to sign with Northern Illinois a few weeks ago. Then Syracuse came with an offer and he flipped to the Orange on Jan. 22. Now a new team is in the mix.
Missouri offered the three-star receiver just hours before signing day, and Winfield is not tipping his hand if he will flip yet again.
“Everybody will know tomorrow morning,” Winfield said.
He will sign his letter of intent at 8:15 a.m. ET Wednesday.
Winfield’s uncle Neal Richardson believes his nephew will stick with the Orange.
“I know he liked Mizzou,” Richardson said, “but it’s late and we haven’t visited the school and his mom hasn’t met any of the coaches. I am pretty sure he will stick with SU.”
Winfield needing his mother to meet with the Orange coaches held up his flip from Northern Illinois, so the fact the Missouri staff cannot meet with her before signing day could help the Orange hold onto Winfield.
