ESPN 300 WR takes in Miss. State
By Damon Sayles
A visit from an ESPN 300 wide receiver shook up the recruiting world on one side of the coin and gave the other side 11th-hour hope.
Oklahoma State commit Fred Ross Jr. (Tyler, Texas/John Tyler) took an official visit to Mississippi State over the weekend. His head coach at John Tyler, former Oklahoma State defensive back Ricklan Holmes, said the trip was simply to weigh options.
While Ross has said on multiple occasions that he’s solid with his commitment to Oklahoma State, he has several programs trying to sway him. Mississippi State is one of them.
“The trip went well,” said Holmes, who spoke with Ross on Monday. “It’s good to know he has options.”
Ross, No. 176 in the ESPN 300, committed to Oklahoma State on Feb. 25. He is the No. 22 wide receiver in the country and the No. 22 player in Texas in the Class of 2013.
Ross, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound receiver, also has offers from Baylor, Missouri, Texas Tech and West Virginia, among other programs.
