Mean Green pick up juco TE

By Damon Sayles

North Texas went to the junior college ranks to score its 14th commitment of the 2013 recruiting class and also boosted its run offense on Sunday.

Tight end Chris Loving (Brenham, Texas/Blinn College) gave the Mean Green his verbal pledge after an official visit over the weekend. Originally from Klein, Texas, Loving is a traditional tight end who was used at Blinn primarily as a blocking option.

Loving, a 6-foot-4, 260-pound tight end, chose North Texas over and offer from Kansas State and interest from South Florida.

“A lot of it involved how I can immediately come in right away and start,” Loving said. “Playing time was important with me having only two years left. With them running more of a pro-style offense, tight end is a very important position.

“The coaching staff really liked me, and they said I was one of the big recruits they wanted to get. I felt like I was really needed, and it just felt like a great place.”

Loving, who will sign a letter of intent in February, was an all-Southwest Junior College Football Conference honorable mention selection. While he only had two receptions during the 2012 season, he helped Blinn’s offense average 202 yards per game with his blocking.

Loving was recruited by Mean Green running backs coach Mike Grant. He will have three years to play two seasons.
