CB Cydney Calvin talks 1st Big 12 offer
By Damon Sayles
Cornerback Cydney Calvin (Frisco, Texas/Centennial) has watched his stock skyrocket in the last 60 days. On Thursday, his stock hit a new high, as he picked up his first Big 12 offer.
Calvin picked up an offer from TCU during an in-home visit early Thursday evening. The 6-foot, 170-pound shutdown cornerback now has nine offers, arguably none bigger than the one closest to his home.
“It just feels good knowing that the bigger schools are noticing me,” Calvin said. “It’s a blessing. I know a lot of other kids don’t get this opportunity. Everything feels good.”
Calvin had an in-home visit with TCU head coach Gary Patterson early Thursday evening. He said Patterson talked about Calvin competing for a job as a “Boundary” cornerback, TCU’s bigger, more physical corner who covers on an island. TCU’s other cornerback is a “Field” cornerback, who is normally the smaller back that covers more of the field.
“He was explaining to me how I can fit in and why they liked me,” Calvin said. “He was explaining to me the school, the academics and the facility.”
Calvin will visit TCU the weekend of Jan. 25. This weekend, he will visit Wake Forest, the first school to offer him. Calvin has offers from those schools, as well as New Mexico, Colorado, UTSA, Idaho and others.
